We took a grand adventure this weekend. Our quest was to conquer the WHOLE state of New Mexico...in a weekend. Being hugely pregnant. To say it was an adventure is an understatement. Anyway, so on Thursday I took Bianca all the way down to Altus to Bobby's parent's house, since a real babymoon does not include kids (sorry, B). It was a long drive, but with enough good music, it wasn't TOO horrible. I picked Bobby up from work that night and we got appetizers and cheesecake from The Cheesecake Factory...YUM!!! Then got the rental car (we have enough miles on our own haha). I will admit though, it was kind of weird and sad not to have our little girl with us that night. We did miss her silly face. :)
The next morning we woke up really early and headed out! This is what our GPS said...
On ONE highway. Crazy, huh?
It was a pretty long drive, but eventually we did get to the hotel.
COWS!!!
We got ready and went straight to the temple as soon as we got to the hotel. We forgot the camera, so we didn't take any pictures of the temple that night, boo! After our session, we went back and changed for our fun night out! Man, Albuquerque is nice! We stopped at this place I saw on some Food Network show first, they apparently had the best green chile burger. So I got the burger (with chicken because this little boy does not let me eat beef) and Bobby got Christmas enchiladas (with red AND green chili sauce, yum!). It was so good! It was worth the AWFUL parking situation to go here!!!
After dinner, we headed to the theatre. We were going to see a musical improv show tonight, like we used to go to in DC all the time. Oh how I wish I could be back on stage again! It was pretty good. We were EXHAUSTED after, so we went straight back and hung out the rest of the night.
The next morning we packed up and left. We explored Albuquerque a bit that morning. We discovered the Hot Air Balloon festival was going on. We were going to go, but we couldn't fit it into our crazy schedule, but that's ok because there were balloons everywhere in the sky! We got to see them after all!
Over the temple!!
We stopped at the temple first, to get some good pics and visit the store. Then we went to Deseret Book store and got Bianca some birthday and Christmas presents, hooray! We wish we had more time here, we love this city (despite the fact that neither of us are used to the lack of humidity, haha). We started off for Santa Fe when we saw an LDS landmark off the highway, so of course we made a pit stop!
Before Santa Fe, we stopped at Taos Pueblo, a Native American reservation. We toured it, which was pretty neat. It was FREEZING outside though! We bought some bread made in a clay oven just to keep us warm (man was it tasty!). Then Bobby got me a pretty bracelet, aw! So sweet! Even though it was cold, it was still a neat place to tour.
The oven where the bread was made
A river near Taos, so pretty!
The highways are beautiful here!
Cool rock!!!
Once we got to Santa Fe, we stopped at this chocolate place I also saw on the Food Network that makes chocolates with chilies and bacon and stuff, Kakawa Chocolate House! It was AMAZING!! We each got some truffles and a Chili hot chocolate drink, which was SO good!!! Would 100% go back!
BACON CHILI TRUFFLE. YES!
We explored downtown Santa Fe next, which was alright. It wasn't as spectacular as we thought it was going to be. We ate at some Mexican place that was recommended to us, but it was also not that spectacular, sorry Santa Fe. We rested up the rest of the night for the long day to come.
The next morning we headed out on yet another long drive, this time to Carlsbad Caverns! It was a long and boring drive, oh my goodness, but it was beautiful when we got there!!
We walked through the caverns and it was beautiful! It took a while since I am hugely pregnant, but it was very worth it! Here are some of our coolest pictures!
I'm glad we stopped to do this! We drove the rest of the way that night to the place where Bobby has always wanted to go...ROSWELL, NM! haha! It was another awful drive full of nothingness, but it made us appreciate it more when we got to Roswell. We settled in the hotel and ate at some Italian place across the street. Then we zonked out for the night.
The next morning we explored Roswell before we made the long trek to OK (yes, we are crazy). We went to the Roswell museum, which was "informative" lol.
Then we went next door and did the "fun" museum, where you can pose with a bunch of different aliens hahahaha. It was great! Here are our best poses:
Such an interesting place! I'm glad we went, it was cute. After that we took the long...long...LONG drive back to OKC. Blah. But it was all worth it, what an exciting, interesting, and amazing adventure we had on Cameron's babymoon!
Cows in Texas!
We got in really late, after dropping the car off and all, so we got our little girl the next day. Poor girl was sick that weekend. :( but she was happy to come home, and so were we! :)
