Bianca's Rockin' First Birthday Bash!

What a weekend! We had a fabulous time for Miss Bianca's 1st birthday! It was super hectic, but well worth it in the end. On Friday the 18th I spent all day baking her birthday cakes. I made an applesauce spice cake for Bianca that didn't have any added sugar in it (that Bobby actually loved) and I made it in the shape of a drum to go along with her birthday party theme of "Rock 'n' Roll."  Then I baked a vanilla cinnamon cake (with real vanilla beans, yum yum) with a vanilla bean frosting in the shape of a guitar for the cake! Bobby was joking with me and said that since I broke down and bought the guitar cake mold (sooo much easier than carving a stupid cake when you're not very artistic) that for every birthday from now on everyone's getting a guitar cake. I don't mind :-D haha! I also baked some fruity pebbles gluten free cookies in the shape of musical notes to put along the cake. And THEN (can you see why I was so busy this weekend???) I made homemade tootsie rolls to put on the cake as the guitar strings. I also made some salsa since we're going to have salsa and chips for Bobby to eat. Thank goodness Bobby stopped me there and told me we're ordering sandwiches from Walmart, otherwise I probably would have kept baking and turning the kitchen completely upside down!!!

Then I spent the rest of the afternoon cleaning up after all of my baking and waited patiently for Shire to come! She finally came around 9:30/10pm and we were so excited for her to meet Bianca! Bianca liked Shire a lot, which was very good because she wasn't going anywhere until Sunday haha. We chatted a bit and then decided it was time to go to bed.

Bianca's cake!

"Helping" mommy with decorations

Saturday the 19th was her actual birthday! How cool is that? I spent the morning getting some music for the party onto Shire's computer which she awesomely let us use. I was sad because there was a temple trip that morning, but we obviously couldn't go on her birthday. We got ready and decided it was time for Bianca to open her presents from Mommy, Daddy, and the grandparents!

Her loot

A jacket from Gram!

Her favorite (annoying) present

The pop pop kinda scared her at first...sorry Gram!

A pillow from Gramma!

Her first piggy bank from mommy and daddy!

Maybe now she'll walk!

It was really cute because she loved her presents and spent a little time with each one of them before she moved on to the next one, so precious! Then we decided that we'd better go and get the sandwiches at Walmart, so we set off on an adventure around Ithaca.

We drove around the REAL (hehe) Cornell campus to show Shire and then we got Bianca a 1st birthday balloon! She loved it and didn't want to let it go (despite being a bit cranky from being in the car).

Check out her new car seat. Cornell has a program for poor students to get a free car seat and we took advantage of this, yay!

We ate at Garcia's first because we were hungry and Bianca likes their quesadillas. After that we traveled to Walmart and picked up our (huge) sandwiches. They almost didn't fit in the car with all 4 of us in there! We went back home and had a ton to do before the party started at 4.

Check out the evite here (as long as it works anyways...)

Who noticed all of the Beatles references? You get a gold star if you did.

So for those who couldn't click on it, here's a pic preview of it:

So Shire and I were busy in the kitchen and Bobby was watching little girl. I put Shire in charge of chopping vegetables and I made the guacamole and homemade whole wheat tortilla chips (softer and more healthy in case people didn't want their kids eating chips out of a bag). Then Bobby couldn't put Bianca down for a much needed nap, so I had to pause and do that...AHHHH! I then quickly frosted the cake while Shire and Bobby were loading the car up to bring to the community center. It was...insanity for a while.

I finally woke the little girl up about oh 20ish mins before her party was to start...and at that point I hadn't decorated the cake and they hadn't finished setting everything up ahh!! I drove up to the community center and put daddy on diaper and walking Bianca to the party duty while Shire and I finished up some last minute details. We set up the tables, Shire cut the sandwiches (what would I have done without her there???), I decorated the cake, and we put all of the food out. We started decorating when Bobby and Bianca joined us. They were finishing decorating just as the first guests arrived! I mean, we didn't decorate much at all, just some streamers, balloons, and a couple of pics of her on the walls, but doing all this in 20 mins would have been a miracle. Some of our friends helped us and the party was at full swing in all it's glory in no time!

It was nice to have it at the community center because it was huge, had a lot of couches and chairs for people to sit in, PLUS had a ton of toys for the kids to play with. Overall I think it was such a fun party. Shire was AWESOME at jumping in and helping out, which we really appreciated and were so glad she could join us! Bianca had a blast playing with her friends too.

We "lost" the guitar strings....

YUM!

The ONLY pic of me and Shire together...really?????

Bianca's favorite part I think was eating her cake. She was so excited to smash into it and kept saying "mmmm!" Maybe the black icing wasn't such a hot idea since she got it all over herself, but she was having fun and it looked super cute and that's all that mattered.

Her "drum" cake. The original drumsticks broke on the way here so I just broke off 2 rice cakes quickly to make these

Sushmita and JJ enjoying cake with everyone

She also had fun opening her presents. She loved each one she got and we were really thankful for the love our friends showed us.

Then we just cleaned up and (eventually) headed back to the apartment. Our friends helped us take down all of the decorations, which was awesome. Then we took out the trash, loaded up the car and hung out for the night. She played with Shire's present, drank some cow's milk for the first time (which she wasn't too impressed with) and we went to bed after quite the exhausting day. OH! And I found the guitar strings. They were under the bag where we put the extra veggies, grr! Oh well, it was still a rockin' party. HAPPY FIRST BIRTHDAY BABY GIRL! WE LOVE YOU SO MUCH!

The "Lost" guitar strings were found!

On Sunday Shire came to church with us to help watch Bianca, which was nice of her. She had to leave right after though because she had a rehearsal to get to or something, boo! But we were so happy she could be there to celebrate her 1st birthday with us! It was exhausting, but a wonderful birthday weekend to remember (for mommy and daddy anyway). Oh, and she started taking her first real steps ON her birthday! Watch out world, Bianca is walking, oh boy! ;)
