Graduation Weekend 2012!

HAPPY GRADUATION, BOBBY!!! So proud of my baby for making it through grad school and getting into the grad school honor society thing! Bianca and I got to go to his award ceremony and we couldn't be more proud of him! His parents were scheduled to fly in on the 25th to Binghamton. We ventured down there a bit early so we could cross into PA and stop at a church site we haven't been to yet! We walked around and explored and then headed off to the airport.

We got them, ate, and then took them to their hotel. The next day Bianca went to a friend's birthday party while Bobby drove to Cortland to pick his parents up (everything in Ithaca was booked). The party was a lot of fun and Bianca got some butterfly wings that she likes to play dress up with now. Plus it was one of the last times we'd be seeing some of our Ithaca friends before they move away. :(

When Bobby came to pick us up, we left and took his parents to the farmers market, which was fun. We ate Chinese food and then headed off to Palmyra! We went to the Hill Cumorah, where Bianca decided to have a diaper blowout. Excellent. She hasn't done that in...who knows when! So I took off my sweater and made her some makeshift pants lol. They looked like MC Hammer pants, it was wonderful.

We visited the rest of the sites after this, the Joseph Smith house, the BOM publication site, the sacred grove, and the temple grounds. They really seemed to enjoy themselves, which is what we were hoping for!

We drove home and ate at Wegmans that night (YUMMMMM!). Bobby took them home so I could give Bianca a bath and settle her down for the night because tomorrow's the big day!!

On graduation day Bobby got his parents early and we walked down to campus. Bobby went his own way and I took his parents to where the ceremony was. It was a bit hot out, but other than that it was good weather. Bianca got a bit bored during the ceremony, but we did pretty good distracting her I think.

We met up with Bobby afterwards and went to a reception for CIPA grads. We ate and let Bianca run around and have fun (i.e. watching her walk along the big window sills for 2 hours). After mingling  we all went upstairs and got ready for the CIPA graduation, where he got his diploma. Bianca slept through the whole thing, waking up only to see Bobby walk across the stage, hooray!

Bobby's officially a Cornell grad...without a job. But that's ok! It's gotta help him somehow, right? Anyways, then the REAL adventure began, oooooh boy. I was so nervous. Bobby decided to take his parents to NYC...without telling them. They specifically said they didn't want to go there, so of course he takes them there lol. That's my hubby for ya! We told them they were switching hotels, so we just started driving. Bobby's dad had a hunch and kept saying "it's NYC isn't it??" but I couldn't say. We made ok time and got our train tickets. Then they knew, and weren't happy. Eek! Especially because the train ride was an hour and a half. We were certain it was only an hour, boo! But we got there, then walked through the city at night with Bobby's mom grumbling the whole way (oops!) to our hotel. But we made it.

Our camera broke OF FREAKING COURSE, so we didn't get many pics in NYC (it's not like we hadn't been there before though). Bobby and I went to the temple the first day, which was great. Then we went with Bobby's dad to tour NBC studios, which rocked. After that we made Bobby's mom get ready and we walked forever (hehe) and went to the empire state building, which they liked. Other trip highlights included eating Chipotle (hey, it was a highlight for us anyways), going on the Statin Island Ferry...WITH SHIRE! It was fun having her play tourguide for us.

We also treated his parents to a Broadway musical. We sent them to see Sister Act, which they LOVED!!! We just walked around waiting for them and bought a camera for our Africa trip. It started to rain as soon as their show was over so we had to run to a cab. Then we switched hotels, got one near the airport and that was NYC. They were angry at us at first for taking them there, but in the end, they liked it (especially Bobby's dad!). What a graduation weekend indeed!
