ROAD TRIP PART 7: RAPID CITY, SD

June 24th (part 2)

We then left for SD! On our way a deer ran in front of us! It was scary! We decided we could make it straight to the Badlands...and we did it. We were absolutely starving by the time we got there, but we made it, haha. We got to go through Pierre on the way, which was cool.

because we missed the SD sign on the way in :)

State Capitol

So when we got to the Badlands park, we ate at the Lodge restaurant there, since we were all starving.

The food there was pretty good! Bianca and Cam got the hot dog and fruit (which Cam loved), Bobby got some good pasta, and I got some chicken with broccoli and sweet potato fries. Then we noticed Cam was being a little TOO good. He pooped himself. Like all up the back nasty poop. Yay. Joy. Fun. So I took him into the restroom and got him all changed and clean. Then we were FINALLY able to explore the badlands, which was AMAZING! Probably the highlight of the trip! We climbed on the rocks, which was fun, but I wish we packed our sneakers so we could have done more and went higher! Daddy went pretty high though in his sandals.

LOVE THEM!!!!!!

there go the girls

tah-dah!

bye, daddy

Then we drove around and took lots of pics. Cam hated every time we stopped, haha. Oh well! It was one of the most beautiful places I've been to in the US! Warning, here are a ton of pics! ;)

rattlesnakes, ew! We didn't see any, thankfully!!!

A bunny!!!

selfie time!

mad that we keep stopping to take pics of the beautiful scenery

toe sandwich anyone? :-P

Then we drove to the hotel. It was then around 930/10pm when we realized that we had left our credit card at the restaurant...and that was an hour away. OOPS!!!!!!! UGH!

June 25th

IT WAS RAINING TODAY!!! OF COURSE!!! OUR DAY TO GO TO MT. RUSHMORE!!!! UGHHHHHHH!!! So we went onto plan B to wait out the rain. We went to Hot Springs to see The Mammoth Site. Lots of people there, because of the silly rain I assume. It was a long wait to even get into a tour group, so we waited around and bought a treat to eat (ice cream for us) and Bianca a book. We finally get in and we have to watch a 10 minute video. Micah wasn't having it, lol. At least one of our kids has to be screaming at all times, I'm convinced of that. ;) The tour was neat, but again, Micah did not like it in there. I left a few minutes before the tour ended because he couldn't take it anymore. I fed him and we just waited for the other 3 to finish the tour. We got there at 1130, but didn't get out until 1!!! Crazyness!

Micah and I watching them from below

We decided to try driving to the Mt. Rushmore area to find some food, but on the way there, we saw in the distance the darkest and scariest looking rain clouds EVER! And we were driving straight into it. *gulp* Yeah. It was the scariest rain storm I have EVER been in!!!!! Everyone was pulled over with their flashers on, but still, you couldn't see a foot in front of you, even with all the lights and everything on!!! Holy crap!!!!! All we could do was sit there and pray. But it only lasted for 10-15 mins, yeah ONLY!

uh-oh.....

It finally let up and we drove to the Mount Rushmore area to look for some food, but there was no parking over there, DOUBLE UGH! We were SO hungry. :(

So we drove BACK to Rapid City and ate at this Pho place I wanted to try anyways. Pasific Rim Cafe it was called. And it was DELISH! But the kids hate Asian food, even though they had a grilled cheese and apples. So Cam wasn't great there, but the food was good for us adults anyways. Then we went back to the hotel and IT STOPPED RAINING AND THE SUN WAS OUT! HOORAY!

THESE PICS!!! <3

<3 <3 <3

We went back to Mt. Rushmore and got in! Woohoo! It was as if the rain never happened. Crazy weather! We had just enough money to pay cash to get in, since the storms knocked out the credit card machine, phew! We walked around as much as we could with a stroller. It was really neat to see! Smaller in person than you'd imagine, but that's what everyone says. Then we got ice cream there. They had an original vanilla ice cream made from the recipe of Thomas Jefferson, so Bobby got that one. Tasted buttery. It was good. Bianca and I went for the soft serve raspberry and vanilla though. We love our berries. ;)

it was as if they were putting on a play in the middle of the road, so weird!

Cam thought the ice cream was so cold!

Then we drove all the way BACK to the Badlands to get the credit card before they closed for the night, LOL. What an adventure today was! The sun was setting and it was super pretty to see.

creepy pic lol

We drove BACK to Mt. Rushmore to see it lit up at night! Got there at 1015ish. The boys fell asleep in the car, obviously, so we took turns going out to see it and to attempt to take a pic. None of the pics do it justice, but it was all pretty cool. Got back to the hotel by 1115/30ish and called it a night!

surprisingly, dying cell phone pics for the win!
